GOTY aka "Game of the Year" award is an easy phrase that can cause massive uproars among the gaming community. Every December and January almost every form of media that covers gaming in the slightest list off tons of award categories, with GOTY award being cream of the crop.
Every year, we see tons of titles that deserve high praise and plenty of attention. I mean with 3 consoles on the market and also PC, thats a lot of games coming out on the market every month. So honestly I find it incredibly difficult to select a single title out of a enormous market and say this is the best game for the year. Thats something impossible, and all comes down to every ones opinion. Hell, last year the game I loved the most was Demon's Souls and still enjoy that game today. So really it comes down to your flavor. However, theres one title, one game that for over the years, deserves...no needs to receive that special GOTY award. I'm of course talking about Gran Turismo 5.
Why Gran Turismo 5? Well, I was looking back on the past few years of GOTY winners and I couldn't help notice that I cant remember the last time a racing game every reached that GOTY award. It could be well over a decade since a Racing game last won GOTY. I mean think about it, over the past few years its been constant shooters or adventure hack and slashers thats been winning GOTY awards time and time again. Dont you think its time a racing game deserved to get some of that prime light?
Gran Turismo 5 has been a title thats been in development for years and years, every day the Studio Polyphony Digital spends hours around the clock putting in every detail, placing every object perfectly. Constantly inspecting every car model, making sure its up to the highest standard. Polyphony Digital, is a studio thats easily obsessed with perfection. But really its more then just that. Its all passion.
Think about, GT5 could of released years ago but Polyphony studios didnt want to ship a game with out every bit of tech available. Polyphony Digital has been adding every thing that came their way over the past few years which is simply incredible. Using they PS Eye, they added head tracking motion, they also included the just released 3D update as well. Not only all that but they keep the bar raised at the highest standard running the game at 1080p which still steals my breath.
However the passion doesn't stop there, Polyphony Digital goes a far as creating over a 1,000 available cars in GT5 which is simply staggering. But what makes that sound so incredible is simply the fact that Polyphony Digital studio treats every car the same, not a single detail is missing. Be it the cheapest of cars or the rare and expensive exotic brands. Not a single car is over looked. Which makes every vehicle feel special.
To be honest, I could go on for days detailing all the specs that GT5 has. From the attention to detail on a cars bumper to the buildings you'll blaze past at over 100 mph. Its simply, insane. Putting aside all console loyalty, Gran Turismo 5 is a title that has been built upon the love and passion of racing games. Polyphony Digital is a studio that eats and sleeps racing. Simply put, racing is what they do. Sure, Gran Turismo series may not be for every one, but every one can appreciate the dedication that they put forward in to a product that millions will love.
For 2010, I would like to see Gran Turismo get that GOTY spot light. Let this one year be for racing, for burning tires, drifting tight corners, racing lap for lap and obtaining some of the sickest rides. Let it be GT.

Asura from NoobFeed writes: Tiny Garden has something that not many games do, but players who want high risks might not be happy with it. In a field that is addicted to speed, it offers structured stillness. Its steady assurance is what makes it unique. Tiny Garden is more interested in long-term attention than short-lived thrill.
i have to disagree, GT5 no matter how good it is, is just a racing game it will be exactly the same as forza, but with more cars and graphics that arent that much of an improvment. Also you can only go into selected car cockpits and only certain cars have damage. forza all cars have damage and u can go into al cockpit of any car.
finally with GT5 being the best driving game dosnt make it the best game due to the fact that gt5 hasnt got as bigger market as games like RED DEAD REDEMPTION, MASS EFFECT 2, GOD OF WAR 3 i doubt it will sell any where near the same amount ( BUT WILL STILL SELL VERY VERY WELL)
i am not hating on GT5 at all. i love racing games but with this being a racing game i highly doubt it will be GOTY
I mean yes, this year already has brought out some huge titles that rocked the market. All which deserve the attention and spot light. My view on GT was more of respect towards Polyphony Digital and the amount of work they have put towards the latest GT title.
And yes theres been several other racing games available today which all have their fan base, however in my opinion, none have put the same amount of dedication, energy and passion in to a single title. I think GT deserves the GOTY award for the sheer amount of Will to work on such an enormous title for years with no compromise, no corners cut, no scrapped material or short cuts. Polyphony Digital stayed true to their path and will no doubt release a title people will play for years.
i have to disagree, there have been many corners cut for example the fact not all cars have damage, or not all cars can go into the cockpit.
The games not even out yet. o_O
of course the game is not out yet, However GT5 prologue is and not to mention the GT5 Time Trial Challenge that was available. Which shows the amount of Fan service Polyphony Digital has been going out of their way for. If you even read a single line of what I had to say, you see I was reviewing Polyphony Digital on the amount of dedication and work towards their product. Something that any one can admire and give respect for.
